Landfill Bans

Refuse Disposal Sites prohibit the following items in the garbage waste stream. According to Sonoma County Code Section 22-24, violation of these bans can result in a $500 fine and/or jail up to 6 months. Additional penalties for violation of Sonoma County Code Sec. 22-7A can result in paying to the county a sum equal to three times the amount of the county standard tipping fee for the total refuse disposed (See Sonoma County Code Sec. 22-25).

Recycling opportunities for these items are provided at County Refuse Disposal Sites, with the exception of hazardous waste, mercury containing products, sharps and treated wood. These special wastes are only accepted at the Household Toxics Facility at Central Disposal Site.

In addition, there are other options in Sonoma County to recycle these materials. Use the "What would you like to recycle?" search function at the top of this web page and choose a topic.
